There are snowflakes....

Today...a few snow flakes were falling outside.
I don't think winter is going to win over autumn yet however.
At least I hope not.
Better get more of the autumn photos up while the autumn season still is holding on!

When we got back from Alaska we drove up to Guardsman's Pass where we always see spectacular aspen color.
This year...we missed out.
Just two areas were still in color.
I thought it was interesting that one stand was rather orange while the other was golden yellow.

The drive up there was still colorful.
(By drive up there I mean a twenty minute adventure.)

The aspen around Silver Lake near Brighton were still showing color.

A crowd of people standing on the edge of the road overlooking a meadow was our clue that the moose were around.
Sure enough...there was Papa Moose hunkered down in the field.

Mama Moose and her twins were about 50 yards away.
She looked like she had a pretty dramatic scar on her forehead.

The babies never moved to a place where a clear shot was possible but I could definitely see them.

They were right behind their mom.

In the upper left corner of this shot you can see Papa Moose and in the lower right corner Mama and the twins.
Awww...so sweet.
(The Alaskan twin baby moose that we saw in Homer seemed much older to me!)

We didn't just take a drive of course.
Not when there are fish to try to catch too.
(None were caught this day though.)

As usual, as Bernie fished I explored the local beauty.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now doesn't that look like a place that there ought to be fish?
Now I think everyone agrees that autumn is the best time for taking outdoor pictures.
I suggested that there needed to be some family pictures taken too.

So late last Sunday....pictures were taken before too much time had run away.
(Luke is just six months, and can't yet stand on his own or walk. But he does enjoy standing with a little help wherever help is offered.)

 

 

Luke *may* appreciate Canada.
He enjoys red leaves and wearing red pajamas printed with moose and beavers.

 

 

 

The fall color was just past peak but I still love how this shot came out.

And I suspect that once the snow really begins in earnest I may ask if we can take another pictures here in the snow.
 

Millcreek in Autumn again, with Luke.

The view from our front yard is blazing with color.
And if you look closely, you will note a rainbow just above the power lines on the left.
Recently we seem to be having more than a typical amount of rainbows.
Color on color: the world is wearing a rainbow colored veil everywhere we look.

I took a walk with Luke up in Millcreek in early September.
He seemed in awe of the trees that were just barely showing fall colors.

Two days ago when we went to the same stop in a path the scene now looked like this.

Bernie strolled Luke around on this visit to Millcreek.
I lingered behind the guys to capture the scene forever.

I am not sure what they talked about...

And Luke didn't spill any beans.
His lips were sealed.

The way the path way shoulders are trimmed reminds me of thick cuff or collar worn against a creeping chill.

The area we are visiting in Millcreek is called Church Fork.
It is about four miles from our house.

These stairs have captured my photographic attention in fall and winter snow.
Now I think the stairs will be featured in a yearly photo showing how Luke grows.
 

Starting at the bottom, each year he can move up a step.
Perhaps at one point he will be joined by a sibling...or  perhaps even a wife!
Twenty steps between each stair landing.
I won't be around to take 80 years worth, but perhaps he will figure out a way to keep taking fall pictures over the years.
Wouldn't that be amazing to see?

Right now the yellow rustling leaves are much more interesting.

Oh I do love our beautiful Millcreek Canyon with so many walking and hiking trails to explore.
Alone, or with a sweetheart of any age.

Meanwhile, Autumn also appears in SLC

We took a walk through Church Fork in Mill Creek canyon yesterday.
The fall colors and leafy scent...so wonderful!

I have no idea why every time I take fall foliage pictures the pictures turn out looking like a painting.
I use my regular camera settings.

The sky was quite grey yesterday and it poured rain right after we left the Canyon.
Today it is sunny and I hope to try to get up there again to try some different camera settings to see if I can get crisper images.
May use a tripod and a 50 lens.
