From: Massage Therapy Journal Winter 2008

Wendy Van de P*ll has answered the call of the wild in her practice. She runs a successful business in rural Sandwich, New Hampshire (....) She has been a licensed massage therapist since 2000.

Q: What inspired you to take up animal massage?

A: I used to be a wolf ecology professor. A group of us were studying wolf behavior in the wild, and one day an alpha male wolf woke up paralyzed. No one knew why. We brought in health care providers including an acupuncturist and a massage therapist. I saw how beneficial massage was for the wild wolf. He survived, walked and maintained his alpha status. At that moment, I realized massaging animals was my calling.

Q: Where do you work?

A: I travel to my four-legged clients...

Q: What are some common animal aliments?

A: It depends on the sport.

I just wish Wendy didn't live on the east coast. I think she would make one heck of an interesting dinner party guest. Can't you just imagine how it would go?

"Oh Steve, Mary...come over here. I want you to meet my friend Wendy. She massages wolves in the wild. Why don't you three chat and get to know each other a little better while I get the dinner rolls out of the oven."

okay, that has to be one of the most bizarre jobs I've ever heard of. You had me cracking up, by the way. I never knew that there were such..um..variations in the massage world. Nice to know.

Now wild cats...that I can completely understand (I'm sure Tiggie and Hart would appreciate their own licensed massage therapist). But wolves...naw.

Amy is right, all cats know the value of a good massage therapist! They do their utmost to train us, their personal servants, in that skill, don't they!!

Well, wolves are too much like woofies, so I certainly wouldn't want to be around that massage therapist person. Are there massage therapists for Cats? My people are certainly failures in that arena. If you know a good one, send him/her my way. Or, I'd settle for a good ear-licking from Tiggie.

I'm still laughing, Jill! Reading your blog is great therapy for me, and the laughter is good for the body and spirit, too!

Oh and wouldn't Tiggie and Hart love her to have a go at them. . . provided of course that she isn't a firm believer in keeping the scent of her last client.

Having had a wolf... I can't say I ever considered that she might need a massage !

Genesis 1:26-28
God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth."
God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God's nature.
He created them male and female. God blessed them; "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!
Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth."
Okay, I had no idea that in these verses was the interpretation that we had to go to such extremes to take charge and be responsible for wild wolves needing massage therapy. Who knew?!
Thanks for the ever expanding knowledge you bring into my life, Jill. Hmmm... I wonder what happens should the animal not enjoy the message and bite off my hands? Do you think that is covered by insurance?
