Millinery: The Easter Parade and A Poem for Easter Saturday
There isn't going to be an Easter parade anywhere here in Houston.
I'll bet there isn't going to be one where you live either.
Soooo.....how about we hat lovers putting together a virtual Easter Parade?
Take a picture of yourself in your Easter hat tomorrow, then post the picture on your blog on Easter Monday. Leave a comment today if you wish to participate, or a comment on Monday's post so others can find you on your blog, in your bonnet, with all the frills upon it...
Meanwhile I'd like to share the following poem, by Elizabeth Rooney, as found in A Widening Light: Poems of the Incarnation edited by Luci Shaw.
Easter Saturday
A curiously empty day,
As if the world's life
Had gone underground.
The April sun
Warming dry grass
Makes pale spring promises
But nothing comes to pass.
Anger
Relaxes into despair
As we remember our helplessness,
Remember him hanging there.
We have purchased the spices
But they must wait for tomorrow.
We shall keep today
For emptiness
And sorrow.

You are the expert, Jill. Where and when do you think the Easter Parade began, and why? What is the connection with Easter hats, and Easter? Seems a strange mix from my perspective yet I have always recalled it being there, even on good 'ol Bugs Bunny. :)
Thank you for sharing the poem.
I mentioned you in my post today and put a link to your Hogg gardens post...
I'll do my best to join the Easter Hat Parade!
Sara
I was thinking about you this morning (Saturday) and wished I had asked your advice about an appropriate hat to wear to the Sunrise Service (which begins in 6.5 hours and why-in-the-world-am-I-still-awake?!) - the forecast for the service time is drizzly, humid, and a bit cool...and it's outdoors, of course!
Sadly, I have no Easter bonnet to wear on this Holy Day. All of my duds are packed!
I love easter bonnets... My collection is from pictures on the internet. I didn't wear one this year.
I love the idea of a virtual Easter Parade! I'll be back.
I'm participating! Off to post the pics. :-)
Jill,
Check out my blog about Easter Parade.
