Over the weekend my Colorado Springs resident friend Gail flew in.
We spent a girls getaway weekend together up in Idaho at Lava Hot Springs.
Lovely place, even in rain and with not much to do in town.
On our way back to SLC we swung over to Bear Lake.
We spotted an eagle sitting in a field of snow.
By the time I managed to make a U turn, the eagle was in flight.
He politely perched on a fence post for me to take his picture.
The fence post...was at the end of this trail.
I didn't attempt to get closer myself; thank heaven for a good telephoto lens!
Gail watched as I at least crossed the road to get that little bit closer.
South East Idaho.
Lots of lonely places.
It looks cozy...wonder what it is like to winter in such a place?
Gail took a photo of the bird gathering on a power line.
Did the birds have a good reason for picking that particular power line for their conclave?
I missed being able to pull over to photograph a skunk pushing through the snow along another fence line.
From the skunk-y scent, there must have been more than one skunk in the area out and about around ten am on a Sunday morning.
Then there were these two birds.
The tiny magpie I could identify.
But what on earth is this thing?
A juvenile eagle?
A goshawk?
Just don't know but he too sat patiently while I took his photo.
Bear Lake straddles the Utah/Idaho border.
Bernie and I spent a weekend camping there last summer.
I wasn't sure if the lake would be iced in and was pleased to see it was its usual turquoise blue and mostly ice free so Gail to enjoy its unique color.
A quick peek around the marina...which was still iced in.
Cisco's is named after one variety of the fish the only found in Bear Lake.
The thing about a relaxing weekend spent soaking in hot spring feed pools in a small town without much to see is there isn't much to blog about.
Just wanted to say it was pleasant time and share a few photos of what we saw.

Yes, that's an almost-adult bald eagle perched there.
Great photos! By the way, Cisco's had great burgers. The young ladies working there introduced us to fry sauce, too. When we're hungry and traveling near a sizable body of water, we always look for a marina. You can usually find a pretty meal there.
Sounds like a relaxing time. Glad you could get away and soak it in.
Beautiful photos...
You really do have a great lens! I don't know how you even saw him in the first place. What fun to have a relaxing time with a friend. Bear Lake is a very pretty location on earth.
I just love these photos today! Winter IS beautiful indeed and you caught ever so interesting views!
Sounds like a lovely way to spend a weekend, Jill. Thanks for all the photos. Looking at that snow it all seems rather surreal to me here in San Diego.
Lovely open landscape. The little cabin has a story. I wonder what it is - nice to imagine.
A getaway without much to do sounds tranquil.
