We went to San Diego again, driving through the mountains and hilly lands to the south of us in Utah.
Fog floated above the mountain ranges, creating pencil sketches out of scenes that are vibrantly green shaded in spring.
The first day of driving is always calm and relaxing in every season.
This time was no different.
We talked a little about everything, and nothing, quietly as we took in the scenery.
The surreal fog layers muted us along with the mountains.
How can something as unsubstantial as fog hide something as substantial as a mountain range?
One who had never driven this way before might believe the area was flatland.
Little farm buildings and trees stood like cut out figures in fields.
Field watering systems stood idle in the damp cold.
I have seen the Scottish moors in winter.
They had their charms.
As do the lands of my own place on earth.
Our car carried us swiftly on clear highway roads where thankfully the fog did not linger.
We were thankful for the day's safe journey and for the privilege of seeing views that will never be repeated just so.

Glad you had a good journey!
Those car conversations can prove very interesting. Your thoughts on the landscape are interesting. I have heard from those folks who have traveled in Utah and didn't find it as picturesque as you discuss and prove with your photography.
Maybe I am blessed with an eye for beauty; there are very few places here that I have seen and found uninspiring.
On the other hand...glad to hear some folks won't be rushing to move here since they felt there was nothing here to see.
:-)
Nothing like a road trip...whatever the season...with a good driving companion! You found a different kind of beauty out there.
We love taking road trips together - uninterrupted talking time! Your photography and commentary on the landscape is beautiful.
I love a road trip. It sounds like this one was a good one!
When we drove from NYC to Colorado we drove through heavy fog all through the state of Nebraska! It was surreal at night and we felt so unsafe as we could not see beyond a few feet from our headlights. We were very tense until we were able to stop for the night. I guess it was better than a snowstorm as we hit that in Northern CO. Again it was whiteout conditions and slippery.Travel is winter can be treacherous!
PS: The Garden of the Gods is truly beautiful and more manicured in nature than South Valley Park, which is more wild and rustic. They also allow people to touch and climb on the formations. You would enjoy both places!
Not only are you bless with an eye for beauty, you are also gifted with an ability to wax poetic about that which is around you. We are all blessed to be able to journey along with you and your eye and your thoughts.
Very lovely - in word and photo! My kind of relaxing drive for sure !
Your photography and words drew me right in as I read your post today. You are gifted in both. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on fog. It was quite interesting!
Very wintry photos all. Ditto on what Vicki says - you do have an eye, and a way with words too.
(I should know better than to type comments from my cell phone. I just spotted a typo. Of course, you know that 'bless' was supposed to be 'blessed.')
I do love a road trip and all that it involves from the lovely long lulls and starts of conversations...to the beauty around each corner.
