Doh!

The strangest thing about this house has been discovering that the colors we have chosen to repaint rooms are often the same colors or close to the same colors as the original owners chose  for paint a half a century ago.
Case in point:
Vee was the one to suggest painting the bathroom ceiling to match the wall and tiles.

Imagine Bernie's surprise after he took down the bathroom's overhead light fixture!

And get this: The walls were originally a peachy apricot yellow as was revealed to us behind the towel bars holders.
Imagine how the room must have looked back in 1954 with those colors!
Now I really wish I knew what the original flooring looked like.
Must have been something really interesting, colorful and lively.
Maybe someday we will find out.
Wouldn't that be fun?

I think I see awe on Bernie's face. Very neat. See, it's a good idea whose time has come around again. I just know that you're going to love it. Yes, I'm very confident.

I think the house is looking just like it was meant to!

That's so interesting Jill! I am sure I saw such color combinations back in the mid-century days, but I don't remember them....guess I was too young to really notice such things. Perhaps the floor was some very colorful linoleum tiles with splotches in various shades of turquoise and peach!

Did you know that when the Titanic was built with all its magnificent carved wooden stair rails and banisters and amazing ballroom, they lined the impressive staircase with...not marble, but (are you ready for it?) linoleum! It was extremely expensive back then and the latest thing. A little fact I learned at the Titanic Museum in Branson, where they have a replica of said staircase.

I'm kind of thinking that Sarah may be right about the linoleum. When my grandparents floored the added-on breakfast room/porch in their circa 1920 farmhouse, they used linoleum floors. I think the room was added on in the 1950s. The house my parents bought that was built in 1962 had asbestos tiles throughout. It's great to know that you're keeping true to your home's history.
