While those around us were dressed appropriately for much nicer events...
We decided to go to a bit of an "upscale" restaurant with a "downscale" name.
The Lazy Goat was recommended to us for their tapas menu and great river view.
We got a corner table overlooking the river and the promenade.
Perfect for my favorite pasttime: People watching!
Don't you love that dress on that woman?
She has the Southern Belle thing down. She even manages to get her man to tote her over sized purse for her! Now that's the kind of stunt that only a southern girl to pull off I think.
(Can you get your guy to carry your purse for you? How do you do it?)
The Lazy Goat had a great menu!
Grilled Red Onion & Tomato Salad: shaved ricotta salata, arugula balsamic sherry vinaigrette, polenta croutons.
Those croutons!
To die for!
Bernie ordered Mousaka: Crispy eggplant, spiced lamb, greek béchamel and tomato, while I ordered "Duck, Duck, Goat": A pizza made of duck confit, drunken goat ( a hard goat cheese), duck egg, arugula and sour cherry vinaigrette. The dried sour cherries were perfect with the duck and cheese.I've been seeing a lot of recipes for pizzas made with salad items and an egg cooked in the middle. Try it...you will like it.
More people watching...there was a lot going on out in the park and a minor league baseball game to boot!
We shared a dessert: Lazy Goat Bourbon Banana Pudding: roasted bananas, whipped cream, berries and vanilla wafers.
Totally satisfied with our meal we were ready to head back to the hotel.
It was about 10 pm...but downtown Greenville was just starting to party!
Main Street had bumper-to-bumper traffic while people strolled the sidewalks and dined au fresco in the warm night air.Bernie told me to get a picture of this park motorcycle that was self lit with pale blue lights. Nothing like showing off your "ride" even when it is parked!
If it hadn't been so warm, and that I knew for a fact it was June, I could have easily been convinced it was Christmas with all the lights and people. Perhaps we should have found another parking place and joined in the downtown population.
But...it had been a long work day for Bernie and we had big plans for the morning. By following the instructions of Bernie's trusty GPS, we found our way back to our hotel.
Setting an alarm for seven, we quickly fell asleep.
To be continued....

That food looks really good! I think it's good for us bloggers to go visit our husbands while they are on business trips and get them out and about to enjoy all the scenery! Good job!
I am always fascinated by the food you order. Your pallet is certainly more refined than mine.
The south is just beautiful.
What fun you are having! This is such a beautiful spot and I love the previous post too, all about the Reed River and the goings on along its banks. I can feel that soft, warm Southern air scented with magnolia and jasmine! It is a big part of what I love about the South too...
